Canadian study explains why people get off the chiropractic table feeling better.
Dr. Greg Kawchuck of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College published a study in 2013 explaining why people get off the chiropractic treatment table after care, and feel a difference right away. You can read the paper for more details: read this.
The summary shows the facet joints have a reduction in stiffness, the small stabilizing muscles of the spine become more active and the discs become healthier and more elastic. Spinal manipulation may be one of the most effective forms of care for common back and neck complaints, but the only way you will know is to try it for yourself.
If you are considering chiropractic care, welcome! It is extremely safe, time tested and effective, and results are often immediate. You don’t have to “believe” in order to benefit from safe, modern chiropractic care. Your body will let you know, and the science we have accumulated in support of modern care eliminates the need for “belief.”
Why Steroids may not be the best answer for pain relief.
Sometimes, we need to do some work to get out of pain instead of just taking a pill. Read more here about why steroids should be avoided if possible. (Referenced from Dr. Mercola’s web site.)
Drs. Pearson and Weary have completed certification in Advanced Muscle Integration Technique (AMIT).
This 12 month program allows Drs. Dana and Kelli to re-activate muscles that have been inhibited by trauma or stress. Sometimes, the only reason pain persists is related to the fact the muscle has been turned off by the brain,to allow for healing. On occasion, the brain “forgets” to re-establish contact with the muscle, resulting in a less than optimal “team effort” for a given movement pattern, creating stress on joints and other tissues and resulting in painful movement. AMIT techniques allow for the identification and “facilitation” of these inhibited muscles, resulting in more normal, painfree movement patterns.

Drs. Pearson and Weary have completed training and certification in the Cox Method non-surgical technique for disc herniation.
Both Drs. Pearson and Weary have completed a 4-day certification in the use a very specialized table designed for non-surgical treatment disc herniations. Dr. James Cox, the creator of this table and clinical approach, has been developing this protocol since the early 1970’s. Read more

The Mind Trumps the Body!
While it is critical to obtain proper care for your back pain, don’t ever ignore the fact that your mind can and does influence your body. A recent study showing how mindfulness meditation can significantly reduce back pain can be read about here, along with our suggestions on how to get started.
We are excited and grateful to include massage and rehab therapy in our clinic!
It has been 3 years since we began offering massage therapy and are proud of all 3 of the great therapists we have onstaff, who are available to help our patients recover from illness and injury.
Many patients already have massage therapy as an insurance benefit and we have credentialling in place for most of the major carriers, so please ask your doctor if massage might be of benefit to your case.
In addition, we have added 2 “Movement Therapists”, Jennifer Fisk, and Cheree Sauer, with extensive backgrounds in personal and athletic training. The expertise they bring to our clinic allows our patients to recover more quickly, while offering education that will help them reduce the need for follow up care in the future, by staying strong and flexible.
At times in our practice, we have wished for the resources to teach our patients the fundamentals of good movement and exercise, without overloading them with too much information, yet help them achieve a good understanding of the basics that will help them to stay healthy and minimize the need for future care. The answer to that dilemma now lies with a short series of personal instruction sessions with one of our two movement specialists. Please ask your doctor if personal one-on-one training would be helpful for you, if you are struggling to stay strong and flexible, or are having trouble avoiding re-aggravation of old injuries and complaints.
Recent Study on Degeneration and Association with Pain
The good news: there is no consistent association between overall degenerative arthritis in the neck and pain in the neck. From a chiropractic perspective, this makes a good deal of sense, as we commonly are able to reduce pain with manipulative therapy in patients who demonstrate severe osteoarthritis.
The key to preventing further degenerative change is to stay as active and mobile as you can, through regular exercise and visits to your Chiropractic physician. Abstract
Chiropractic care can save you money!
Chiropractic care can not only save you money, but time!
A recent issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics has shown that seeing a Chiropractic Physician for spinal complaints can lead to faster and better relief, as compare to traditional medical care. Read more.
Additionally, an article published last year in Medical Care showed that people who see a doctor of chiropractic for their neck and back pain do not have higher health care costs than those who don’t. In fact, it was found that adjusted annual medical costs for chiropractic patients was $424 lower for spine related costs, and $796 lower for total health care costs, when compared to those who did not visit a doctor of chiropractic. The results of this study are particularly significant, as it included more than 12,000 people with neck and back pain, using data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS).

Dr. Pearson on ACA Board of Governors
Dr. Pearson has participated on the Board of Governors of the American Chiropractic Associationfor the past 5 years, and with the completion of her 6th and final year next year, will have been in constant service to the legislative and patient rights division of our national association for nearly 30 years! She has been honored to fight for the inclusion and extension of chiropractic benefits for all of our patients, along with coordinating and sharing information with our medical colleagues, to foster better care for all patients. We are extremely proud of her efforts!
